In the movie Tomorrowland, there is this problem with the projection of a negative future into the Earth that acts as a self-fulfilling prophecy. I was thinking maybe that is the case in the modern world. Science fiction generally portrays a very dark image of the future; there is hardly ever a story about a bright future for humanity. And I have come to realize that maybe that is the problem fueling the destruction of the Earth.
A personal problem of mine is not to have any deposit, any saving, any plan for the future. There is this belief in my core that there is no future, and that makes me very anxious and stressed in my everyday life. I have very little faith in my success and in the economy of the future, and that makes me do everything that I can today, have fun today, spend and buy the things I want today, and not wait for the future, because in my mind there is no future.
And maybe that is the whole problem with the capitalistic world. If you believe that your practice of life is not sustainable, then you become very stressed, and then you ignore the future because the future can be very hard for you, and you do lavish things to spend a lot and destroy yourself to the core.
What makes this bad belief of the future? What is the cause of that stress? On one side, it is definitely the actions of the rich, but our portrayal of a dark future powered by technology is too horrible. If you look at the history of the modern computer, there has been little that is actually evil, and there is a lot that it can be used for evil. And I guess in some ways that causes the problem in the first place, resulting in a huge feedback loop. And so that may be it, that the science fiction is the cause ofall evil.
