What are they? One Axiom is that you should segregate kids by social class, we don’t do that. You should segregate those who are trained to use their heads from those who are training to use their their hands. You should segregate those who are going to college and those not going to college. You should segregate the school from Community—like the old Citadel from the 1200s. Those are really old notions, you know? and so, we just basically ignore all those things.

Every generation has to rediscover democracy.

The heart of education is a teacher and a learner, and we have over time kind of obfuscated that relationship with every type of cretion and distraction: we have syllabuses, we have testing regimes, testing companies political ideologies, political purposes, subject loyalties, Union issues, building codes, all of the things, timing schedules.

It’s why we can spend all day long discussing education and never mention teaching or learning.
