I was trying to communicate the message of 1285 in First Island , and I was thinking how that must be done? After a few tries I thought about a LEGO piece that shows something, then breaks apart and reassembles.

And so it would separate into pieces. The idea was “Find > Break Into Atoms & Understand Atoms > Rearrange Atoms and Make Something New”. This was a way to tell everything to the unconscious before actually telling anything. Like the start of a Bond Movie.

The duck was an original LEGO duck design. To make it beautifully, I actually studied the blueprints of the LEGO bricks and make designs faithful to their actual designs, the colors and prints were also all exact LEGO. To make the animation, I had to use Affinity Designer and rearrange the pieces and convert to SVG so that it would actually have translation coordinates, and then I coded all the translation coordinates into a script by hand so that on scroll the rearranged themselves to different shapes.

This was my first time making rich animations in the web and this was using GSAP. What I had was a dot where on scroll it would exapnd and take the whole screen. This was done with a clip-shape, and then on scroll you would get to the lighthouse with four lights rotating around it with the scroll. This was the magic of the website. What everyone loved about it.
