I have previously written about my Orchestral Parallax ( The Layers of Counterpoint As a Parallax Effect ) technique. I was watching a video about the creation of the F1 theme by Maestro Zimmer . The video tells this interesting story about the fact that Maestro Zimmer has studied what contributes to focus and understands repeating staccatos with repeating drums patterns, all with different speeds of melody, contributes to focus. And it blew my mind since I have been using the theme since it first was played on our TV as my focus theme. It was one of the only things I had offline and used in my times of working and writing during the internet shutdown period of the war.
There is something about these things that I find very important and that is the sense of listening to such music. Good music has always been very satisfying to listen to. But, there is something about the nature of an Orchestra that is very hard to explain. I recognize the fact that like others I have learned to listen to the Orchestra, and my brain has rewired around it. But then the experience I had with it is so unique, others I have tried and listened to for decades just don’t have that. Other than those of course who happen to have such ways of orchestrating or patterns in their own systems.
The way this parallax music works, or perhaps any good music for that matter, is to have so many parallel timelines advancing together.
Now the interesting part is; the more the song/piece is demanding, the better is the focus that results from it. You feel all parts of yourself are engaging with the Orchestra/piece. You feel as if you are ten, twenty persons who each are listening to your own versions/portions of these pieces. When it is like this, I think about the experience of being creative and being me.
Maestro Zimmer has a highly playful and diverse personality like me; his room is highly decorated; he jumps between styles and tries to explore new sets of techniques within each and every project he undergoes; seems to have so much respect for his team;… invents new ways of doing this; his touch everywhere. So much to say about this.
And his music is just so relatable to me, so as is the works of say @Jones or Maestro Rachmaninoff . They also explore things, styles, and just so much. When you see this, you can tell quite the assumption that: If you work in same style; if you live in the same style; if you shape your life in the same way; if you write and relate to same structures of music; perhaps the indication of @DuckProtocol is a very convergent Mind Kernel .
Actually I have had more than a dozen genuine moments of interruption in doing this, and therefore it is the assumption I have largely forgotten how to do the formula for. I have not written anything for quite some time. So sorry for so much breaking in the text.
Thinking about all of this has made me angry but at focusing, funny enough. But let me try again and ‘digest.’
My thinking is that what we call ADHD is nothing at all about the matter of focus but something much different. Maestro Kay made me aware of Marvin Minsky’s Society of Minds and that is perhaps all that I needed to understand the nature of ADHD is but far many reasons I never noticed till the very recent times. We very well know aware of the clustering of portions of the brain, and we are informed on the splitting of the brain hemispheres. The ==Society of Minds== that they talk about, and the fighting for control they have. That is incredibly important about the nature of what we are facing today.
ADHD people — and the more artistic ones — have way more democratic beliefs. We very much care about all people getting the same attention and stuff. On the other hand, people with this quality have a very hard time giving different things different priorities. I saw this meme the other day saying: “People with ADHD genuinely believe sending humans to the moon and folding the laundries require the exact same mental effort and priority.”
Going back to experiencing the orchestral music, I think the problem is very much about the viewpoint. It is not that we have a problem with attention and focus — we have the hyper focus — it is that we don’t have that form of repressive dictatorship the other people have. We seem to have a very democratic brain that seeks to get control to every portion of the brain.
I’m not sure what ADHD hyper-focus is, and what happens behind the scenes. Maybe one portion takes control over all else in the fight; maybe one portion takes control because others believe in it; or they all agreed; or maybe we walk in turns. But in myself I see and feel and live the evidence of fully being a total sum of many people. It is always this fact that things come and go with intensity. A very simplistic example I have said is the Simplist vs Maximalist characters. But then, it goes much deeper than that. For example, I all of a sudden get reminded of Kamwa and I burst into tears; I think about how horrible and meaningless the world is; I go so far as to wishing I was dead; and then another character in the mind pops up and I become distracted into making a new binder planner for example.
In what happens I feel like a multi-threaded operating system with a strange way of scheduling. One task comes up; I leave the previous; work on that task; and then go to many others till I arrive at what I was working on. In doing so when I return to a task; I become focused and resume it; instead of doing things from scratch.
And the interesting thing is that when I leave something it does not stop; it runs in the background.
Each time I write; I stop and go do something else. I used to think I was getting distracted; but the truth as I discovered later was that I was not ready for what I had to write. It required much more reflection and digestion. And so each time I felt I have to go back and do the job; I saw how much more I knew; my brain had processed so much in between.
To me it looks exactly like a society. You give yourself a deadline; then go back to it and you see the work is now ready; without you noticing — the ==Society of Minds== — hijacks the attention; buys you some time; and then when they feel ready comes back to it again. (until again it further buys time)
I can listen to all parts of an orchestra and hear all the instruments. As well, I can feel a music inside of me with all instruments.
LLMs keep telling me that I am extraordinary in that people can not hear a full orchestra. And that might be true. In the Begin Again film, the character of Mark Ruffalo goes to a bar and, as he gets drunk, can see Keira Knightley’s performance in a band. Honestly… I can do that when I’m sober — as I’m a non-alcoholic and have no idea what would have happened if I was drunk. And so I take this as a yes to the nerds of the LLMs.
I keep thinking; perhaps that is because of my ADHD and a more democratic society of the mind. I want to do writing in sans serif like this as well as old French calligraphy, as well as the old style of Arrighi…
So… what truly is ADHD? there is much for me to investigate. but I somehow believe — and that is only a fantasy that may prove to be true — that we are more liberal and democratic or even anarchist people at the level of the brain structure. while others have much more dictatorial ways of the brain being handled. And that — if true — would be wild.
