The black and white nature of the screensaver was good, but it was not enough. So I played with the colors and made it much nicer.
As of always; I’m writing about something that has taken me decades of processing internally. These are — at least to me — important realizations that have taken quite some time to take shape. The heart of what I’m about to write is something very easy to understand but also very hard [I have no idea why I just wrote this]. To say it fully let me begin from the place of my own memories.
How do we remember things? We remember them by what we have associated with them in our Mind Graph. This is nothing new of course; you watch something like the SILO series and it is all about that. Remembering things by their signs and relative memories. Yet you must see this goes. It’s way way more than that.
In the blender of this essay; there are many things to talk about and blend to one region of embedding space perhaps and so let me give them to you; perhaps you understand the work before I roll it in you.
The ideas of Bret Victor about the Representation of Data Spatially or through immersion; the idea of the future library or the futuristic science lab he demos. — They are all about showing what needs to be loaded in the space of a mind and keeping them there with the objects very always there.
A scene from a series that I remember watching; having this monologue about how our homes are made of little objects that each have a story; a memory; and by keeping them we keep pieces of our life together.
The J-Space in LLMs that load specific words that shape the outputs in the Mind of that foundation model.
And so I was thinking about different things today. I was thinking about how I hardly remember my early days with Zea ; and how I hardly remember my sweet Kamwa. I look at his photographs; I look at his videos; and I do not remember him at all. Sure I remember “some” parts of the memories; but there has been more than one detail to remember. It really is “How Much Of The Whole Graph” do you remember? How much of it can you load into your brain?
And here is where I have genuinely new insights that can very much :fermata: change the way we live. :fermata: My life has been the subject of so much change. Change that many people never experience in their lives. I have had my whole circles change many many many times. In the past year alone I have waked in four different offices; not counting my home office. I have worked with many different people; in many different settings: with Mohammad; Ashkan; and Mohammad Reza at first; then with Ashkan; Parastoo; and Mohammad Zanganeh; then with Ashkan Tayebe and Samin; then with Tayebe; Samin; Roya; Faeze; then with; Samin;
Khazar; Kiana; then Kiana; Fateme; Mohammad Amin; Atefe; Roxana; and Amir; with Mr. Anisi and Ali. This is excluding the Staff at Hashem Abadi’s office; and FANAP Sharif office. Very different people.
Around each and every of these groups I have had different memories and they had fairly different cultural graphs and I had little memory of the pervious when I was at the next. So basically I See Memory like this:
[Environmental Period 1] → [Environmental Period 2] → [Environmental Period 3]
[a drawing of a long, rounded rectangle with dotted texture on the top and bottom; inside it are two small arrows pointing left and right, and a small clover-like symbol in the center]
When one is within one environment; the environment is full of signs that help load the environment into the brain of the person. You have so many things that are loading memory context into your J-space and you are using them in shaping what you are doing. But this environment is not loading the rest of the things; of the past into your brain and so; you are not remembering any of that.
And so many amazing things happen here. In Iran there is a tradition of people moving to a whole new home and neighborhood once someone has passed away. Not everyone knows or does that; but many do — at least did; when financial situations allowed. This was for them to not remember the dead and move on.
Moving on itself is the subject of much thinkings; we have people who jump into a new relationship to forget about the past. It is a new environment after all. [morally poor choice; but the mechanics work]. We — as a family — have lost many groups of friends and each time I thought the next group will not become the previous;
