Wow I had not listened to Adele’s Love in the Dark. What a piece!!!
People always talk about Beatles and the pop/rock that came out of England, and their awesomeness has put the British orchestral music into the shadows.
All the great orchestras are always recorded at England: Abbey Road and Air Studios are there, all the great philharmonics are there (say the London Philharmonic, BBC Orchestra…)
And so form the perspective of the craft, they are the number one. But then they have a form of music that you hear in Adele’s “Love in the Dark”, or say Downton Abbey.
These British orchestral pieces have an amazing texture and color that no other form of music on Earth has. It is very unique and amazing. Each time we watch a British a series I’m like “hooray! we’re going to listen to fantastic music that you never hear anywhere else”.
3:35 of the Love in the Dark has the form of strings that I have so much in my pieces but done a gazillion times better.
Long chords on very high octaves. They give you so much goosebumps you may get hangover.
There is something so bothering me in the Adele piece however, but I found this generous person who has put the whole orchestra’s MIDI into the web, at night I’m going to modify it and make my own version…
I have had so much good music these days that I’m going nuts.
I was listening to “Love in the Dark” by Adele and the “The Way Things Go” by beabadoobee. they brought me back to very good old days of my life. The way the piece has flowers and a french majestic set; gives me a very familiar feeling of the past where we used to go out shopping with mom and Madar . Then the ballet dancers came into the scene and it more and more reminding me of this compound feeling of mine. Let me just list the things that comes up:
— The ballet dancers remind me of Tanya as she used to be one; this also reminds me of all the things that she used to do around it; like getting back home; going to the class; so much…
— Maryam Joon who used to be our nanny growing up. And the afternoons we would sit together before Madar and her taste in things; the old school shops we would go together…
— Pars; our music Institute where I learned Piano from M. ██████ and Tanya learned Ballet and Violin.
— I remember the amazing feeling of being in a music school full of instruments; classy things; waiting in the halls; classes that were empty and playing with their idle pianos.
— That feeling of working with old instruments. The smell of that place.
— And then given ballet was my mother’s thing; I get reminded of her a lot.
— I get reminded of her parents which were a very classic; and fancy family. They were like Royalty
— And so I also feel a lot of the royal things. And those areas They bring me to the world of British Royal Family and all their styles and so on…
— Then it brings me to Gilmore Girls and specially Emily and Richard who were also like Madar and Baba Ali . Fancy and classy. also a bit rich and living a very textured life.
— My mom feels just like Lorelai who wasn’t as rich as her parents; her husband didn’t really care about these things; and being very modest towards material life. How Lorelai lived a more modern and cute life with her parents being in that form of life.
— And how I always felt being like Rory. Being a nerd in a very cute childhood and going to a world like Emily and Richard as a grown up. And being obsessed with success and material life.
— Then those ballet dancers and the flourishes bring me to things like Step Up and its connection to Pars makes me think about Julliard.
— Now Pars and Julliard both have this spring/summer vibe with lots of vibrant; happy; weekend feelings.
— When I think about those days I remember stability; happiness; people being certain. And I get reminded of the movie National Treasures. Those fancy people who loved history and culture; the feeling of seeing those gorgeous Chancery Hand types on the TV screen; the excitement of those days.
— How I would spend time with Tanya watching movies at Thursdays when our parents would go out and we would order hamburgers.
— The Grandma parties where my grandparents would have invited their parents…
So do you see what a complex and amazing thing is this compound feeling and how many different connections of the Graph come together to make it? How my grandparents connect to Step Up for example and how unique and personal they are? It’s amazing!
